Half-Day Tour
This delightful half-day excursion takes you along one of the most scenic coastal routes in the Cape, following the curve of False Bay to the historic naval town of Simon’s Town and the world-famous penguin colony at Boulders Beach. The drive itself is spectacular, hugging the coastline past the colourful beach huts of Muizenberg, the surf breaks of Kalk Bay, and the fishing harbour where seals lounge on the jetties.
At Boulders Beach, you will find yourself just metres away from a thriving colony of African Penguins, one of only a handful of places on earth where you can observe these charismatic birds in their natural habitat. Wooden boardwalks wind through the coastal fynbos and over granite boulders, giving you an intimate and unobtrusive view of the penguins as they waddle, swim, nest, and call to one another. It is an experience that enchants visitors of all ages.
Simon’s Town itself is well worth exploring. This charming False Bay town has served as a naval base since 1814 and is rich in maritime history. Wander along the main street past Victorian shop fronts, visit the quirky Just Nuisance statue honouring the only dog ever officially enlisted in the Royal Navy, and browse the independent galleries and cafes that line the waterfront.
On the return journey, Mike will point out landmarks along the False Bay coast, sharing stories of shipwrecks, whale sightings, and the unique character of each seaside village along the route. If time allows, you may stop at the famous Muizenberg beach huts for photographs, a row of brightly painted Victorian bathing boxes that have become one of Cape Town’s most iconic images.
Whether you are a wildlife enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply looking for a relaxed and memorable morning or afternoon, this tour offers a perfect blend of nature, history, and coastal beauty.
