Full-Day Tour
This is one of the most spectacular day trips in South Africa, taking you along the full length of the Cape Peninsula to the dramatic cliffs of Cape Point and the storied Cape of Good Hope, the south-western tip of the African continent. The journey itself is as magnificent as the destination, with every turn in the road revealing another jaw-dropping vista of mountains, ocean, and wild coastline.
The adventure begins with a drive along the Atlantic Seaboard through the affluent suburbs of Camps Bay and Llandudno before reaching Chapman’s Peak Drive, widely regarded as one of the most scenic coastal roads in the world. This nine-kilometre stretch of road is carved into the cliff face 600 metres above the sea, with 114 curves offering constantly changing views of Hout Bay and the Sentinel peak. You will stop at Hout Bay, a working fishing harbour nestled beneath the mountains, where you can browse the craft market or simply take in the scenery.
Continuing south, the landscape becomes wilder and more rugged as you enter the Table Mountain National Park section of the Cape Peninsula. You may visit an ostrich farm along the way, where you can see these remarkable birds up close, before arriving at the Cape of Good Hope, where the famous sign marks the most south-western point of Africa. The wind-swept landscape here is hauntingly beautiful, with fynbos-covered hillsides dropping away to the pounding surf below.
From the Cape of Good Hope, a short drive takes you to Cape Point itself, where you can ride the Flying Dutchman funicular or walk the path to the old lighthouse perched high above the cliffs. The views from the top are among the most dramatic in the world: sheer cliffs plunging into swirling turquoise waters where the cold Benguela Current of the Atlantic meets the warm Agulhas Current of the Indian Ocean. It is a place of raw natural power and extraordinary beauty.
On the return journey, the route follows the False Bay coastline, passing through Simon’s Town with a stop at Boulders Beach to see the African Penguins. From there, the scenic drive continues through Scarborough, Misty Cliffs, Kommetjie, and Llandudno before reaching Camps Bay and Clifton, each with its own character and charm, completing a full circle of the Cape Peninsula.
